![[Convertible blouse, flared]](f/f10-1.gif)
After a while considering the possibilities of flares, one eventually realises that more than just trousers can be flared. With this in mind, a quest was begun to seek a suitable shirt for to be flared. At the time, almost all girls' blouses had sleeves that ended some way short of a full length, and so it was with some relief that a plain white, long-sleeved blouse was found for sale in Miss Selfridge.
Work began immediately, extending the cleft of the cuff to allow for a larger flare panel. A purple panel was inserted into each arm, so that the existing buttons, when closed, would hide the flare panel (almost) completely. As an added extra, the side-seams were cut open, and purple panels were inserted into each of these as well, with a zip to again allow for the hiding of the flares, should such a thing ever be desired.
Now we have a white blouse which can appear entirely white and dull, and would befit a café waitress (although the purple does show through a bit), or can be converted into a bigger, flarier, more colourful blouse with purple panels all over the place. We know which we prefer.
