Another long-standing pair of trousers which have been converted is this pair of standard blue denim jeans, which had fallen out of favour with their owner. I can't remember where the original jeans were from; it doesn't really matter anyway, they were just normal everyday (straight!) jeans.

Into the inside seam of each leg was sewn a panel of paler, thinner, denim (from a disused shirt), and into the outside was sewn a similar panel, but in different colours. A red panel was added to the left leg, and a green panel into the right one. It has been pointed out that the nautical colours for left and right are the other way around, but to no avail. To remove the need for careful hemming, and because the trousers were a little too short anyway, a strip of material was added around the bottom of each leg, with a small point in front. In order to make the legs hang better, a crease was sewn in to a small length just below each knee.
